Located on the corner of St. Claude and Friscoville, we exist for the benefit of the great community of St. Bernard. Our desire is to eliminate hunger in our community by acquiring and distributing food to those who seek aid. We place great emphasis on serving our clients with dignity and respect, seen both in the food we serve and in the setting in which it is served.

At the Community Center of St. Bernard, we believe that having access to nutritious food is a top priority. We are committed to responding to the needs of our community through our Food Pantry. We value and respect every client that comes through our doors. We are here for you.

We offer 5 programs at the Community Center of St. Bernard:

  • Our food pantry program was how we began The Community Center of St. Bernard, and continues to be the most prominent program that we offer. With our food pantry being set up grocery shopping style, we aim to prioritize the privacy and dignity of each of our clients. Each person that comes in has the opportunity to shop for their items while in an atmosphere of acceptance and care. We currently serve over 600 St Bernard Parish Residents.
  • So many children within our public school system do not have access to a meal from Friday after school until Monday morning.  Because of this, each week, we put together bags for students that will contain nutritious and easy to fix food that will help sustain them over the weekend. Currently, we feed 250 students per week in both elementary and middle schools.
  • Launched in March of 2022, the Hygiene Program is our newest program. Hygiene poverty is rampant in the United States and affects health as well as the capacity of millions of Americans to succeed at school, work, or virtually anyplace. Along with their grocery items, our clients now have the option to shop for hygiene products as well. While the items vary, we aim to provide feminine products, adult diapers, soap, toothbrushes/toothpaste, and shampoo.
  • We wanted to honor one of our selfless volunteers, Mrs Hope. She loves books and plants, so we combined the two and created “Hope’s Book Nook”! This new spot in our building is our tribute to her and her selfless actions. We still have a bit to do, but this area is for our clients to have access to free books and also for book donations. This area will have children’s books and adult books.
  • Launched in May of 2024, the Sunshine Fuel: Summer Feeding Initiative was formed. Our goal of the “Sunshine Fuel” Program is to ensure children who rely on school meals throughout the year continue to have access to meals during the summer months. This program will help to address the issue of food insecurity among our Public School Students. This will be a sister program to our existing “Backpack Program” that runs throughout the school year.
