Experimental Specs

Getting involved in paddlesports requires a significant investment. Governing bodies like NYPRA must carefully walk the line between aloowing the sport to grow and modernize, without making fleets of expensive paddlecraft completely obsolete. Toward that end, we have devoloped a practice of speed testing new designs against the conventional specifications.

Experimental C1 Specs

Concept:

After several years of speed comparison between the GRB Concept and USCA Comp Cruiser C1’s, the NYPRA has determined the GRB Concept is not an inherently faster boat; it will not make USCA Comp Cruisers obsolete. Given the critical mass of paddlers already using the Concept in New York, as well as the Concept’s relatively cheap cost of production, the NYPRA is sanctioning the inclusion of both the High Volume and Low Volume GRB Concept models in the C1 Open Class.

Any new designs that meet the Concept build specifications (below) will be subject to a trial period. The limits of these build specifications need to be tested by more boat builders and designers before the NYPRA can confidently adopt them. The goal is to make C1s cheaper and easier to produce; not to make them faster.
