Description

Join us for the Lake 2 Ocean paddle race, a fun and challenging paddle race to help Rescue the River of Grass and raise awareness to combat the toxic Lake Okeechobee discharge that’s harming our beloved waterways. The event will take place on April 12th from Port Mayaca to Stuart, where paddlers of all levels will embark on a 36 mile journey through the iconic Lake Okeechobee waterway. By participating in this event, you’ll be supporting efforts to prevent further pollution, advocate for sustainable water management practices, and promote the health and well-being of our local ecosystem. Proceeds from the event will benefit our local South Florida organization, Friends of the Everglades. So grab your paddle and join us for a day of fun, fitness, and activism against toxic pollution.

This race is open to all crafts both solo and 3 person relay team, Stand-up, Prone & Sit downs. Open drafting, no drafting of motorized vessels. The start and ending are at different locations, paddlers will have to provide their own transportation to and from. Paddlers are responsible for their own hydration and nutrition while on the course. There will be two checkpoints along the way which will have water and some nutrition to refill and resupply if needed as well as safety vessels on the course. There is a 10 hour time limit for the course with coordinating checkpoint cut off times. Paddle will be required to portage around the St. Lucie lock with their paddle craft. Awards to top finishers and unique finisher medals.
