Fjordin Crossin and Paddle the Canal Challenge Canceled

Health, fitness and well-being is why Hood Canal Events was started, and improving the quality of life in the Pacific Northwest by providing quality events continues to be our goal.

It is definitely a challenging time we are in and it’s with a heavy heart that we have decided to cancel FjordinCrossin and the Paddle the Canal Challenge because of logistics related to the Coronavirus outbreak.

We are hopeful and remain positive that the measures taken today will result in a better 2020 for everyone! The remaining events we have scheduled for the year are still on schedule and we hope that you can come participate and support. Please take the time to view our 2020 events page at hoodcanalevents.com/events and we’ll continue to #BeTheTraveler!

Description

Hood Canal Events and The Hardware Distillery are excited to announce our 4th annual Fjordin Crossin.  It will take place this year on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at the Port of Hoodsport dock located at the Hoodsport Marina. Fjordin Crossin is a fun family event that celebrates the old Linie Aquavit tradition of sending a barrel of Aquavit in a ship from Norway across the Equator and back to Norway. The rocking of the boat and the salt air is meant to improve the taste of the Aquavit spirit.  The Hardware Distillery pays homage to that spirit by sending a barrel of its aquavit across the Hood Canal, (our Fjord), with a festive Hoodsport celebration.

Fjordin Crossin has been growing each year.  The event begins with a parade from the distillery to the dock with the barrel of Aquavit.  For the first year, the parade had only the distiller, the port maintenance engineer, and the barrel of aquavit.  By the third year, the parade was led by Scandinavian fiddle and accordion musicians, followed by many participants. To celebrate the launch, Hood Canal Events sponsors a Paddle the Canal Challenge that follows the Twanoh in canoes, kayaks, SUPs and/or small sailboats. Registration fee is $19, and is family-friendly. Approximately 50 participants are anticipated for 2020.

The paddle race is a 3-mile course and open to participants of all levels. The race begins with the sounding of The Twanho's horn and paddlers rush the beach to paddle the width of the Hood Canal, turning around and returning to beat the barrel of aquavit back to the marina. All participants must wear PFD's equipped with an emergency whistle to participate in the paddle race. Rescue boats will be on hand to assist with any distressed paddlers and to mitigate other watercraft traffic in the waters during the event. Join us for the post race celebration where we will taste the aquavit, have traditional Scandinavian food and beverage and local vendors for this festival along the Hoodsport waterfront.

  • ALL EVENT CUPS ARE VEGWARE - made from 100% plant based and recycled materials that include no plastic and are commercially compostable.
  • Event t-shirts are available for registered participants for an additional $18 and must be pre-ordered with registration.
  • Pick-Up and Same Day Registration are availavle at the Hoodsport Marina on race day between 12PM and 1PM
