Description
Welcome to RTC's OWS Season!
Hosted Monday's and Wednesday's weather and river permitting at Robious Landing Park.
* If you are unable to attend the swim PLEASE cancel your registration so that we can have an accurate count of swimmers and can have the necessary water support. You can also email Lilo Navales lilortc@gmail.com or message Lilo on Facebook Messenger*
1. Registration is for all active members ONLY. If you have not renewed your membership please go to https://www.richmondtriclub.com/join-or-renew
Swimmers please plan to show up by no later than 5:45 pm in order to get yourself ready and to attend the swim safety orientation briefing and other Club announcements. If you arrive after 6:15 pm we cannot guarantee that we will have our last kayaker/SUP person in the immediate area and you will swim at your own risk. Please be on time.
Each swimmer should seed themselves (fastest to slowest) Top of the Pack Wave 1 (6:05 pm start), Middle of the Pack Wave 2 (6:10 pm start), Back of the Pack Wave 3 (6:15 pm start).
At 6:45 pm the lead kayaker will blow the horn 2x to signal the return to the dock. If you hear whistles from all the kayakers/SUP on the water, this signals immediate return to the dock or get out of the water ASAP due to lightning!
2. Every swimmer is required to sign the onsite 2021 Waiver (last year’s is no longer valid) and the form will be available at check-in.
3. Every swimmer needs to SIGN IN to the log sheet and list emergency contact person’s name and phone number and also SIGN OUT after the swim is done. If you don't sign out we will call the emergency contact person.
4. There will be a safety briefing held at the Check In table before everyone goes into the river. Wave 1 starts at 6:05 pm. Wave 2 starts at 6:10 pm. Wave 3 starts at 6:15 pm
At 6:40 pm the lead kayaker will sound the air horn 2x, to signal the return to the dock from wherever you are. Most swimmers are able to make it to the Rocks dock, about 750 yards, and start heading back before the horn blows. You are welcome to return and start a second lap, however, please sight for returning swimmers. Please do not go beyond the Rocks dock.
5. Swim Safety Buoys are required by ALL swimmers. They can be purchased online at Amazon. We have a limited number of Swim Safety Buoys and are first come first served. No Buoy = No Swim.
6. Bright swim caps (no black, navy) must be worn by all swimmers. We will have a limited number available in case you forget to bring one.
7. After the swimmer returns, they must check themselves out of the log book. The Race Directors will call the emergency contact if the swimmer does not log themselves out.
8. All participants (swimmers and volunteers) are encouraged to sign up for Rained Out text notifications https://www.rainedout.net/team_page.php?a=7a1a66c9d13367fce645
* We recommend getting to the Park by 5:45 pm so that you have time to sign the waiver, get your swim buoy set up, swim cap, etc. *
** Our swim safety ratio of swimmers to water support is 5 people. We always need a minimum of 3 Volunteer Kayakers / SUP's . We must have 6 people on the water with groups of 25 swimmers or more -- all volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. We provide PFD's (personal flotation devices), tethered throw safety jackets, and a 2-Way Radio as well as a kayak or SUP. Volunteers must be comfortable having someone hold on to the front or back of the kayak/SUP. RTC membership is not required but encouraged. A signed Waiver Form is required.
* If you are unable to attend the swim PLEASE cancel your registration so that we can have an accurate count of swimmers and can have the necessary water support. You can also email Lilo Navales lilortc@gmail.com or message Lilo on Facebook Messenger*
